Help Center

Everything in the workstation, explained in one place: what each panel does, where its settings are and how it behaves.

Getting started

SuperCharting is a charting workstation that runs in your browser. It is laid out the way chart traders expect: a header with the symbol, interval, chart type, indicators, alerts, replay and layout controls; a drawing toolbar on the left; the chart in the middle; a widget bar on the right that opens the Watchlist, Alerts, Object tree & data window, TV Pilot, Screener, Script Editor, Calendar and the Products menu; and the Strategy Tester under the chart.

1. Create an account

Pick a user name and give an e-mail address you control; a 6-digit code confirms it. The address is used for password resets, receipts and important notices only. Everything is yours from the first sign-in; the full workstation needs an active plan (see Account & billing).

2. Open a chart

Press Ctrl + K, or just start typing a ticker, to open Symbol search. The tabs narrow the list to Stocks, Funds, Futures, Forex, Crypto, Indices, Bonds, Economy and Options; the Options tab opens an underlying's option chain. Pick a row and the active chart loads it. The interval button (or Ctrl + 1 … 8) changes the timeframe.

3. Save your layout

Your charts, indicators, drawings, watchlist and panels are saved to your account as you work (Autosave in the layout menu, or Ctrl + S). The layout menu also renames, copies and lists layouts and downloads the chart's bars as a CSV file. Multi-chart layouts (up to the grid sizes in the layout popup) can sync crosshair, symbol and interval between charts.

The main menu (your avatar, top left) switches the dark and light theme, shows or hides the drawing panel, opens the app settings, this Help Center, What's new and the keyboard shortcuts, and signs you out.

Charts & chart types

Timeframes

Minutes 1, 3, 5, 15, 30, 60, 120 and 240; daily, weekly and monthly; and, built on the server from live quotes, tick charts (1, 10, 100 and 1000 ticks) and second charts (1, 5, 10, 15, 30 and 45 seconds). Tick and second bars start from the moment the chart is opened. Star the intervals you use most in the interval menu and they appear in the header.

Chart types

The chart type menu lists every type the workstation draws, each with its own settings in Chart settings:

BarsCandlesHollow candlesVolume candlesLineLine with markersStep lineAreaHLC areaBaselineColumnsHigh-lowVolume footprintTime price opportunitySession volume profileHeikin AshiRenkoLine breakKagiPoint & figureRange
  • Renko, Line break, Kagi, Point & figure and Range build their own bars from the source bars with the standard defaults: Renko box ATR(14) with wicks, Kagi reversal ATR(14), Point & figure box ATR(14) with a 3-box reversal built from closes, Line break 3 lines, Range 10 ticks. Each synthetic bar carries the time of the source bar that completed it.
  • Volume footprint, Time price opportunity (TPO) and Session volume profile are built from lower-timeframe bars (1, 5, 15 or 60 minutes, chosen so the visible range stays at a few thousand bars). Every chart bar is cut into price rows; an intrabar that closed above its open counts as buy volume, below as sell volume. Value areas follow the usual rule, starting at the point of control. These three need intrabar history from your data feed, so they are only as deep as that feed goes.

Scales and the price axis

Right-click the price axis for Auto, Logarithmic (Alt + L), Percent (Alt + P) and Indexed to 100 scales, labels and the countdown. Alt + R resets the view. The time zone menu at the bottom of the chart sets the zone every chart is drawn in.

Drawing tools

The left toolbar has the full set: lines and rays, channels and pitchforks, Fibonacci tools, Gann tools, patterns, Elliott waves, positions and forecasts, brushes, shapes, text and notes, measure and zoom. Drawings keep their time and price, so they stay put across intervals, and are saved with the layout. The right-click menu on a drawing has clone, lock, visibility on intervals, visual order, templates and settings. Delete removes the selected drawing, Esc cancels the current tool, Ctrl + Z and Ctrl + Y undo and redo.

Compare

Compare in the header adds another symbol's closes as a line on the main pane and switches the scale to percent, so the two are read against each other.

Bar replay

Shift + R (or the Replay button) opens the replay bar. Click a bar to start there; Jump to… arms it again. Play steps one bar at 10x, 7x, 5x, 3x, 1x, 0.5x, 0.3x, 0.2x or 0.1x; the step button advances one bar. Indicators and the strategy tester recompute on the bars shown, so a strategy can be walked forward bar by bar.

Snapshots

The camera button downloads the chart as an image (Ctrl + Alt + S) or copies it to the clipboard (Ctrl + Shift + S).

Indicators & Script Editor

Built-in indicators

Press / or the Indicators button for the Indicators, metrics, and strategies dialog: Technicals (the standard library, from moving averages and oscillators to volume, volatility and Bill Williams tools), strategies, your own scripts, your favourites and the Community sections. Every built-in is a script, so its inputs, style and visibility are edited in the same settings dialog as yours. Up to 25 indicators per chart.

Script Editor

Ctrl + E opens the editor in the right split. It understands Pine-compatible syntax (v5 and v6): indicator() and strategy(), inputs, plots, fills, shapes, labels, lines, boxes, tables, request.security(), alertcondition() and alert(), strategy orders and the usual library functions. The editor has line numbers, syntax colours and colour swatches; Tab indents the selection and Shift + Tab outdents it. A compile check runs about half a second after you stop typing and marks errors with their line numbers in the console under the code.

  • Save keeps the script under your account (up to 500 scripts, names up to 80 characters).
  • Add to chart runs it on the server against the chart's bars and paints the result; the chart updates on every new bar.
  • Publish script shares it in the Community (see Community scripts).

Scripts on the chart run on the server (only the optimiser's backtests run in your own browser). A script works on market data and its inputs; it has no access to files, the network or other users.

Strategy Tester & Optimiser

Add a strategy() script and the Strategy Tester opens under the chart, laid out as a full performance report: a stat row with the headline numbers, Performance (Breakdown, Periodical, Benchmarking, Margin usage, Growth and decline) with the equity and drawdown chart, Profits and losses, Trades analysis (Distribution, Streaks, Time patterns) and the table view with the List of trades, which can be downloaded. The toolbar sets the testing period, the initial capital, the bar detalization (how intrabar fills are estimated) and the script execution mode.

Properties

The strategy's Settings → Properties tab holds initial capital, currency, default order size and type, pyramiding, commission (value and type), slippage, long and short margin, the test window, and the calculate on every tick, calculate on order fills, calculate on every history tick and process orders on close switches. Changing any of them re-runs the backtest.

Optimiser

The optimiser (the flask button in the tester) searches a strategy's inputs for the best value of a metric, with the workflow of the Quant Optimiser extension: an objective (Total P&L, Net profit, Open P&L, Net profit %, Gross profit, Gross loss, Profit factor, Max drawdown, Max drawdown %, Total trades, Percent profitable, Winning / Losing trades, Avg trade, Avg winning / losing trade, Ratio avg win / avg loss, Largest winning / losing trade, Avg bars in trade, Commission paid, Net profit long / short, Recovery factor) to maximise or minimise, a method (Random, Random improvement, Sequential improvement, Annealing or Brute force), optional save criteria and filters, a timeframe sweep, and a From / To / Step / Default / Priority table per input with the cycle count and the size of the parameter space. CSV templates can be downloaded and uploaded, results exported, and a result applied to the chart with one click.

The backtests of the optimiser run on your own PC: the browser loads a Python runtime (Pyodide) and the site's script engine once, then runs one worker per CPU core, so the server is not loaded and a cycle takes a fraction of a second. The first run downloads a few tens of megabytes, which the browser keeps.

Alerts

Alt + A, the bell in the header or the price axis's right-click menu creates an alert. Alerts run on the server, so they fire whether or not a browser is open, and they are listed with their log in the Alerts panel of the widget bar.

Conditions

  • Price: Crossing, Crossing Up, Crossing Down, Greater Than, Less Than, Moving Up % and Moving Down %, against a value or a script's plot, on the chart's symbol and interval. Several conditions can be combined (all of them or any of them).
  • Script: any alertcondition() of a script on the chart, or the script's alert() calls (once per bar, once per bar close, or every tick).
  • Trigger: Only once, Once per bar, Once per bar close, or Every time; alerts expire after 30 days unless you set another date.

An alert that fires 15 times in 3 minutes is stopped so a loop cannot flood you.

Notifications

  • Toasts and sound in the app.
  • Webhook: an https:// URL that receives the message as the request body the moment the alert fires. Only public addresses are accepted (not private networks or localhost) and the host must resolve to public addresses, so the alert can post to your bot, Zapier, n8n, a trading bridge or any other endpoint you run.
  • Telegram: paste the token @BotFather gave your bot once (Alerts → Telegram), press Detect chats after you have written to the bot or added it to a group or channel, pick the chat on each alert, and optionally attach a chart image with the alert's level and the chart's indicators drawn on it. The token never travels back to the browser.

The message supports the placeholders {{ticker}}, {{exchange}}, {{interval}}, {{close}} and {{time}}, and for strategy alerts {{strategy.order.action}}, {{strategy.order.contracts}}, {{strategy.order.price}}, {{strategy.order.id}}, {{strategy.order.comment}}, {{strategy.order.alert_message}}, {{strategy.position_size}}, {{strategy.market_position}} and {{strategy.prev_market_position}}.

Screener & Calendar

Stock Screener

The Screener panel lists stocks of one market (US, India, UK, Germany, Japan, Canada, Australia or the entire world) with the Overview, Performance, Valuation or Dividends column set, sorted by any column. Filter chips cover price, change, market cap, P/E, EPS growth, dividend yield, sector, analyst rating, performance, revenue growth, PEG, ROE and beta; the search box matches names and descriptions. Clicking a row loads it on the active chart.

Query screens

Type a screen the way you would on screener.in and press Enter: Market cap > 500 AND ROE > 20 AND P/E < 15. Conditions are joined by AND (a new line counts as one), each is a ratio, an operator (>, <, >=, <=, =) and a number; amounts are in crores on the India market and in millions elsewhere. The queried ratios are added as columns. Ready-made screens are listed under the title, and your own are saved to your account.

Company page

Opening a company from the screener shows its key ratios, earnings and growth, quarterly results, profit & loss, balance sheet, cash flow and industry peers in its own currency, with up to 20 years and 32 quarters of the main lines. For NSE stocks the exchange's own filings are added: shareholding pattern, corporate actions, announcements, board meetings and annual reports.

Calendar

The Calendar panel shows a week of Economic events (the G20 by default; countries, importance and category are filters, times are your own time zone) and the Earnings, Dividends and IPO lists of the same week, with a count per day on the day cards. Economic data comes from a public calendar feed; the lists come from its screener feed.

News Flow, Portfolio, Yield Curves, Options, Macro Maps

The Products button at the bottom of the widget bar opens TV Pilot, Screeners, the Script Editor, Calendars and these panels; the star next to a product pins it to the widget bar.

  • News Flow: headlines for the active chart's symbol, or a region's top stories (world, India, Americas, Europe, Asia, Middle East & Africa), grouped by day with the source and the time. A click opens the story in a new tab; the symbol pills under a headline load that symbol on the chart. Headlines come from a public news feed and refresh every two minutes.
  • Portfolio: enter your holdings (symbol, quantity, average price) and the panel values them with the live quotes the workstation streams, with market value, P&L, P&L % and day P&L per row and in total. Click a quantity or price to edit it; adding a symbol you already hold averages the price in. Holdings are saved to your account; totals add values up as quoted, with no currency conversion.
  • Yield Curves: the United States and India government curves (1 month to 30 years) as a chart and a table with the day's change, plus the 10Y−2Y spread and whether the curve is inverted.
  • Options: the option chain of the active symbol (NSE index and stock options), by expiry, with the spot marked; a click loads the contract on the chart. When the active symbol has no chain, the search opens on its Options tab so you can pick an underlying.
  • Macro Maps: a heat grid of the world's main indices by region, coloured by the change over 1 day, 1 week, 1 month or the year to date, with VIX, the dollar index, gold and silver as gauges. Indices the data feed carries open on the chart when clicked.

Community scripts

Publish script in the Script Editor shares a script with every user. Step 1 takes the title and a description (with code blocks, lists and links); step 2 the privacy, visibility and categories:

  • Open-source scripts show their code to everyone and can be copied into the editor.
  • Protected scripts run on anyone's chart but keep the code to their author.
  • Categories are the familiar ones (Trend analysis, Oscillators, Volume, Volatility, Moving average, Bands and Channels, Pivot Points and Levels, Statistics and the others), plus free tags.

Published scripts appear in the Indicators dialog's Community sections (Top, Trending, New, Editors' picks) and on the public library pages at /scripts, with likes, the number of charts using them and an image. You can update or unpublish your own scripts at any time; each account may publish up to 100.

Keyboard shortcuts

These are the keys the web edition really handles (Ctrl + / shows the same list in the app). Keys act when the chart has the focus, not while you type in a text field.

Data feeds & brokers

Markets

NSE and BSE stocks, indices, futures and options (with option chains), MCX commodities, forex, gold and other metals, index CFDs and crypto. Bars are kept in a server-side cache, so history loads quickly and tick-by-tick quotes feed every timeframe from one minute to monthly, plus tick and second charts.

Your own broker connection

The Broker connections page (also reachable from the Account page) stores your own broker API credentials for data. Field values are encrypted on the server and only ever decrypted for the adapter that talks to the broker; the browser gets the field names and a two-character hint, never the values, and there is deliberately no way to enter them through a chat or the API. Where a broker needs a whitelisted address, the page shows the fixed address to register. SuperCharting places no orders.

The assistant connection (MCP)

Your own Claude (Claude Code, Claude Desktop or a claude.ai connector) can work on your account through the MCP server at https://supercharting.com/mcp. Make a personal token on the Account page and send it as Authorization: Bearer <token>. Only its hash is stored, and every tool acts as you and nobody else. The tools: search_symbols, get_quote, get_bars, get_chart, set_chart, check_script, add_script_to_chart, remove_indicator, run_backtest, optimise_strategy, screener, company, list_alerts, create_price_alert, remove_alert, chart_image, list_broker_connections and broker_setup_guide. Tools that change the chart need SuperCharting open in a browser tab.

TV Pilot

TV Pilot is a chat beside the chart that uses the same tools from the server side. It is switched on per account by the site owner; other accounts see 'not enabled'.

Public feeds

The Screener, Calendar, News Flow, Yield Curves and Macro Maps read public market feeds through our server, cached for one to ten minutes and rate-limited per user, so a busy moment can answer 'try again in a minute'.

Account & billing

Sign-up, sign-in, passwords

  • Sign up with a user name, an e-mail address and a password of at least 8 characters; a 6-digit code sent to the address confirms it (codes expire after 15 minutes).
  • Sign in with the user name or the e-mail address. Five failed attempts in 15 minutes lock that name and address for the rest of the window.
  • Forgot password mails a single-use reset link that is valid for 30 minutes. Resetting or changing the password signs out every other session.
  • Sessions last 14 days; Sign out in the main menu ends the current one.

Plans and payment

PlanPricePeriod
1 monthUS$3030 days
6 monthsUS$150183 days
1 yearUS$230365 days

Every plan has the full workstation. Pay on the Billing page with PayPal (a PayPal balance or a card); we never see or store your card number. Each payment buys one fixed period and plans do not renew automatically; paying before the end adds the new period onto the old one. A receipt is mailed to your address. Refunds follow the Refund Policy.

Your data

Layouts, scripts, alerts, watchlists, portfolio and settings are kept under your account on the server. The Privacy Policy lists what is stored and for how long.

Contact

Write to [SUPPORT EMAIL]. For a problem with a chart or a script, include the symbol, the interval, the time it happened (with your time zone) and, when you can, a chart image (Ctrl + Alt + S) and the script's name; for billing, the PayPal order id from your receipt.
