Broker connections: save Zerodha, Angel One and other broker keys
How SuperCharting broker connections work: save Zerodha, Angel One, Dhan, Upstox or FYERS app keys on the /brokers page, encrypted, for market data use.
The Broker connections page at /brokers is where you save the developer keys your own broker gives you, so that SuperCharting can use your broker account as a market-data source. Credentials are encrypted on the SuperCharting server and never shown again. Today a saved connection is stored and listed but does not yet change your charts, and SuperCharting does not place orders through any connection.
What a broker connection is for
Indian charts on SuperCharting already come from the site's own Angel One feed, with public sources as a fallback; forex and CFDs come from broker MT5 feeds the site runs (see forex and gold charts). You do not need a broker connection to chart NSE:NIFTY, NSE:RELIANCE or XAUUSD.
A connection of your own is for using your broker account as a data source: market data from your broker is licensed for your own use, and your own account has its own rate limits. The page lets you prepare that now. As the page itself says, live market data through your own broker is being rolled out broker by broker, and a saved connection does not change your charts yet.
SuperCharting does not send orders to any broker. The practice orders on the paper trading panel are simulated and never leave SuperCharting.
Supported brokers
The Broker list on the page offers:
| Broker | What you enter |
|---|---|
| Zerodha (Kite Connect) | app key and app secret |
| Angel One (SmartAPI) | app key, client code, PIN and TOTP secret |
| Dhan (DhanHQ) | client ID and access token |
| Upstox | app key and app secret |
| FYERS | App ID and Secret ID |
| Another broker (custom) | the broker's base address, key, secret or token, and anything else it needs |
Choosing a broker shows its own numbered steps and a link to its developer portal. Some brokers charge for developer access or for their data add-on, for example Zerodha's Kite Connect has a monthly fee and Dhan's data access is a paid add-on; check with your broker. A custom broker also needs a data adapter written before it can be used; the page asks you to tell the site owner which broker it is.
How to add a broker connection in SuperCharting
- Sign in and open /brokers (the Broker connections page).
- In Add a connection, choose your broker, for example Angel One (SmartAPI).
- Follow the steps shown for that broker. For Angel One: create an app at smartapi.angelone.in, enter the static IP shown on the page where the app form asks for one, enable TOTP and keep the secret shown under the QR code.
- Give the connection a name, such as "Angel main".
- Under What may SuperCharting do with it?, choose Market data only.
- Fill in the fields. Secret fields are masked as you type.
- Press Save connection. The page confirms "Saved and encrypted." and the connection appears under Your connections.
Details your broker will ask for
The box Details your broker will ask for lists:
- Static IP to whitelist: the fixed address of SuperCharting's server, which some brokers require on the app form. It shows "Not available yet" until the site owner has set one.
- Redirect / callback URL: for brokers that sign you in through their own page (Zerodha, Upstox, FYERS), the address to enter as the app's redirect.
How your credentials are protected
- Encrypted at rest. The field values are encrypted with a key kept on the SuperCharting server before they are saved.
- Never sent back. Your browser only ever gets the connection's name, broker, chosen use, date and a two-character hint of each field (such as "…7Q"), so you can tell connections apart without exposing them.
- Decrypted only on the server, and only for the code that would talk to that broker.
- Not through chat. There is deliberately no way to hand credentials to the TV Pilot assistant or any other chat tool. The page warns: never paste broker credentials into a chat with Claude or anyone else; enter them only on this page.
- Removable. Remove next to a connection deletes it together with its saved credentials.
An account can keep up to 10 connections. Saving is limited to 30 times an hour per account. A connection cannot be edited: remove it and add it again with the new values, which is also what to do after you regenerate a key at your broker.
Good practice on the broker side: create keys that only allow market data where your broker offers that choice, keep TOTP secrets and PINs to yourself, and revoke keys at the broker if you stop using them.
What a connection does not do
To be completely clear:
- It does not place, modify or cancel orders. SuperCharting has no order placing through broker connections.
- It does not move money, read your bank details or change anything in your broker account.
- It does not, today, feed your charts. Charts keep using the site's own data sources until data through your broker is switched on for that broker.
If you want to practise orders, use paper trading: a simulated account with no real money.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a broker connection to see Indian charts?
No. NSE, BSE, MCX and F&O charts come from the site's own Angel One feed; see NSE charts.
Can SuperCharting place trades in my Zerodha or Angel One account?
No. SuperCharting does not send orders to any broker. Order tickets on the site belong to the paper trading account, which uses pretend money.
Is my PIN or TOTP secret visible to anyone?
The values are encrypted before they are stored and are never shown in the browser again; only a two-character hint is displayed. Remove the connection to delete them.
Why does the static IP say "Not available yet"?
The site owner has not published a fixed address for broker whitelisting yet. Brokers that require one cannot be completed until it is shown.
Will my saved connection start working automatically?
Not yet. Data through your own broker is being rolled out broker by broker; until it is switched on for your broker, charts keep using the site's own data sources.
