Multi-chart layouts: up to 16 synced charts on one trading screen
Multi-chart layouts in SuperCharting: up to 16 charts on one screen, symbol, interval and crosshair sync, and named layouts saved to your account.
A multi-chart layout shows several charts on one screen. In SuperCharting a layout can hold up to 16 charts in 55 arrangements, each with its own symbol, interval, chart type, indicators and drawings, and you can keep the symbol, the interval and the crosshair in step across them. Layouts are saved to your account by name, so you can switch between a "Nifty intraday" screen and a "Gold swing" screen in two clicks.
Choosing a grid
Click Layout setup (the grid icon in the top toolbar). The card lists arrangements by the number of charts:
| Charts | Arrangements |
|---|---|
| 1 | 1 |
| 2 | 2 (side by side or stacked) |
| 3 | 6 |
| 4 | 10 |
| 5 | 10 |
| 6 | 6 |
| 7 | 3 |
| 8 | 4 |
| 9 | 4 |
| 10 | 3 |
| 12 | 3 |
| 14 | 1 |
| 16 | 2 |
Arrangements with unequal cells, such as one large chart on the left with three small ones on the right, are good for a main chart plus context. When you pick a larger grid, the new cells open with the symbol and interval of the active chart, ready to change.
Every chart in the layout can carry up to 50 indicators, and the whole page up to 800, so 16 charts with a few indicators each is well within the limits.
The active chart
Click inside a chart to make it the active one; with more than one chart it gets a highlighted border. The top toolbar (symbol, interval, chart type, indicators, alert, replay) always acts on the active chart.
Syncing charts in a layout
Under SYNC IN LAYOUT at the bottom of the Layout setup card, three switches decide what the charts share. The same switches are in Settings > Multi-chart.
- Symbol: change the symbol on one chart and every chart in the layout follows, each keeping its own interval. This is the classic multi-timeframe view: one market on 1 day, 1 hour, 15 minutes and 5 minutes at once.
- Interval: change the interval on one chart and every chart follows, each keeping its own symbol. This suits a watch screen of several markets on the same timeframe, such as NSE:NIFTY, NSE:BANKNIFTY, NSE:SBIN and NSE:RELIANCE all on 15 minutes.
- Crosshair (on by default): moving the cursor on one chart shows the same moment on the others, so you can see what the 1-day chart looked like at the minute a 5-minute candle broke out.
Switch on Symbol and Interval together and the layout behaves like one chart shown several ways, for example with different chart types or indicators in each cell.
Drawings across charts
The left toolbar's sync button (its tooltip says new drawings are replicated to all charts in the layout and shown when the same ticker is selected) copies each new drawing to the other charts of the same symbol in the layout. Draw a support line on the 1-hour chart of XAUUSD and it appears on the 15-minute XAUUSD chart too. See drawing tools.
Saving and switching layouts
Your current layout is saved to your account a moment after every change. To keep several, use Manage layouts, the small arrow next to the layout name in the top toolbar:
- Save layout (Ctrl + S) stores the grid, every chart with its indicators and drawings, and the sync switches under the current name.
- Autosave keeps the stored layout up to date as you work. It is on by default.
- Make a copy… saves the layout under a new name and switches to the copy.
- Rename… changes the current layout's name.
- Create new layout… starts a fresh single-chart layout with a name you choose.
- Recently used lists the last five layouts; the star marks favourites.
- Open layout… (or press
.) lists every layout with its symbol, interval and when it was saved. Type to search, sort by name or date, and use the bin icon to delete one.
Layouts live with your account, so they are there when you sign in on another computer or a phone. Browser charting has more on that.
How to build a multi-timeframe layout in SuperCharting
- Click Layout setup and choose the 4-chart grid with four equal cells.
- In the SYNC IN LAYOUT list, switch Symbol and Crosshair on and leave Interval off.
- Click the top-left chart and set its interval to 1 day, the top-right to 1 hour, the bottom-left to 15 minutes and the bottom-right to 5 minutes.
- Press Ctrl + K and type
NIFTY. All four charts switch to NSE:NIFTY. - Add an indicator to each chart, for example a 20-period EMA on all four and RSI on the 5-minute one.
- Open Manage layouts, choose Rename…, type "Nifty MTF" and press Rename, then Save layout.
Example: a watch screen
For a morning scan, choose an 8-chart grid, switch Interval sync on and Symbol sync off, and give the cells NSE:NIFTY, NSE:BANKNIFTY, NSE:RELIANCE, NSE:HDFCBANK, NSE:INFY, NSE:TCS, XAUUSD and EURUSD. Set one chart to 15 minutes and all eight follow. At 11:00 switch them all to 1 hour with one click. Save it as "Morning scan" and keep your multi-timeframe layout as a second one; switch between them from Recently used.
Tips for busy layouts
- Use a custom interval such as 45 minutes or 2 hours where the standard ones do not fit your style.
- Mix chart types: candles for the main chart and line or Heikin Ashi for the context charts keep a 6-chart screen calm.
- Each chart loads its own history, up to 40,000 bars. A 16-chart layout on 1-minute charts loads a lot of data; give it a moment after switching symbols.
- Download chart data… in the same menu saves the bars of any chart in the layout as a CSV file, see chart data export.
Frequently asked questions
How many charts can one layout show?
Up to 16, in two 16-chart arrangements. Smaller grids go from 1 to 14 charts.
Can each chart have its own interval and indicators?
Yes. With Interval sync off, each chart keeps its own interval, chart type, indicators and drawings.
Are layouts shared between my devices?
Yes. They are stored with your account, not in the browser.
Can I delete an old layout?
Open Open layout…, hover over the layout and click the bin icon.
Does symbol sync change the interval too?
No. Symbol sync changes only the symbol; each chart keeps its interval unless Interval sync is also on.
