Drawing tools for trading charts: trend lines, shapes, text and more
Drawing tools in SuperCharting: trend lines, rays, rectangles, text, long and short positions, measure, brush and icons, plus the Draw button on phones.
Drawing tools let you mark up a chart: trend lines and rays for direction, rectangles for zones, text and notes for your plan, long and short position tools for risk and reward, and the measure tool for distance. In SuperCharting they sit on the left toolbar on a desktop and behind a round Draw button on a phone. Every drawing is tied to time and price, so it stays in place when you zoom or scroll, and it is saved with your layout.
The left toolbar
Each button on the left toolbar opens a flyout with a family of tools; hover over a button to see its name.

The tools you will use most
Trend line and ray
Click the first point, then the second. A Trendline stops at its two points; a Ray carries on to the right edge. In the line's settings, Extend can make any line extend left, right or both. A trend line joining two higher lows on NSE:NIFTY is the simplest picture of an uptrend.
Horizontal line and horizontal ray
One click places a Horizontal line across the whole chart, with its price on the right. A Horizontal ray starts at the click and runs to the right, handy for marking a level from the bar where it formed.
Rectangle
Two clicks set opposite corners. Use rectangles for supply and demand zones, opening ranges or consolidation boxes; the fill is see-through so the candles stay visible.
Text and notes
Text writes a label where you click. Note, Price note, Callout and Comment add text with a pointer or a box, useful for writing the trade plan right on the chart.
Long position and short position
Click the entry, then the target. The tool shades the target zone green and the stop zone red and shows Target: <price> RR <ratio> and Stop: <price>. In this version the stop is always placed at half the distance from entry to target, so the tool reads RR 2.00 and shows where a stop for a 2:1 plan would sit. To plan a different stop, mark it with a horizontal ray and use Measure to read the distance.
Measure
Click and click again, or drag. The box shows the price change, the percentage change and the number of bars between the two points, for example +212.40 (0.87%) 23 bars on a NIFTY chart.
Brush and icons
Brush draws freehand, and Highlighter draws a wide see-through stroke. The Icon button opens emojis, icons and stickers; one click places the one you picked.
Editing, styling and removing drawings
Click a drawing to select it. A floating toolbar appears with Templates, colour, text colour, width, style, Settings, Add Alert, Lock, Remove and More.
- Settings opens the drawing's dialog with the tabs Style, Text (for lines, rectangles and text), Coordinates to type exact prices and times, and Visibility to show the drawing only on chosen intervals, for example only on 1 hour and above.
- Templates saves the drawing's look under a name and applies it to the next one.
- Right-click a drawing for Clone (or Ctrl + drag), Lock or Unlock, templates and the Object tree.
- Delete removes the selected drawing, Esc cancels the tool in use, and Ctrl + Z / Ctrl + Y undo and redo up to 100 steps.
- Remove objects at the bottom of the toolbar removes all drawings, all indicators, or both.
Drawings are saved with the chart, so they come back with the layout on any device. With the drawing sync button on, a new drawing is copied to the other charts of the same symbol in a multi-chart layout.
How to draw a trend line in SuperCharting
- Open the chart, for example NSE:RELIANCE on 1 day.
- Click the lines button on the left toolbar and choose Trendline.
- Click the first swing low, then the second, higher swing low. The line is drawn and stays selected, and the cursor returns to normal.
- In the floating toolbar, pick a colour and width, or click Settings and set Extend to Extend right.
- Click Add Alert on the floating toolbar to open the Create alert dialog at the line's latest price.
To draw several lines in a row without picking the tool each time, switch Keep drawing mode on first.
Drawing on a phone
On a screen narrower than 760 pixels the left toolbar is hidden. Tap the round Draw button at the bottom-left of the chart and choose Trend line, Ray, Horizontal line, Vertical line, Rectangle, Brush, Text, Fib retracement or Long position. Tap the two points on the chart. Stop drawing returns to the normal cursor and Remove all drawings clears the chart; the button lights up while a tool is active.
Example: planning a trade on gold
On XAUUSD 4 hours, draw a rectangle around the last consolidation, a horizontal ray at its top, and a long position from the top of the box to the previous high. The red zone shows where a stop for a 2:1 plan would sit; if that is inside the box, the plan fits the structure, and if it is far below the box, the target may be too ambitious. Add a text note with the condition, then replay last month with Bar Replay to see how similar boxes resolved. This is practice, not a forecast.
