Multi-condition alerts: combine up to five conditions in one alert
Multi-condition alerts in SuperCharting combine price and indicator conditions on one symbol with All or Any logic, using the Add condition button.
A multi-condition alert fires only when several conditions agree, for example "price is above 24,800 and Supertrend has just turned to an uptrend" on the same bar. In SuperCharting you build one with the Add condition button in the Create alert dialog: up to five conditions on one symbol, joined by All conditions are met or Any condition is met.
What a multi-condition alert is for
Single price alerts are blunt. A level on NSE:BANKNIFTY may be touched many times in a session, and you may only care when that touch comes with something else: a moving-average cross, a momentum signal or a second price level. Combining them in one alert means one notification when the whole setup is in place, instead of several alerts you have to reconcile yourself.
Each condition can be one of two kinds:
- Price: any of the seven price operators (Crossing, Crossing Up, Crossing Down, Greater Than, Less Than, Moving Up %, Moving Down %) with a value.
- A script on the chart: an indicator added to the active chart that defines alert conditions, with one of its
alertcondition()titles or "Any alert() function call". This covers built-in indicators that publish alert conditions and your own Pine-compatible scripts from the Script Editor.
All conditions apply to the same symbol and the chart's timeframe.
How to create a multi-condition alert in SuperCharting
- Open the chart, for example NSE:NIFTY on 15 minutes, and add the indicator you want to use, such as Supertrend, from the Indicators dialog.
- Press Alert in the header or Alt + A.
- Set the first condition. Leave the source on Price, choose Greater Than and type 24,800 in the Value field.
- Click Add condition under the first block. A second block appears with its own source, operator and value, plus a cross to remove it.
- In the second block open the source list and choose the indicator by name, then choose one of its alert conditions, for Supertrend Downtrend to Uptrend.
- A logic row appears between the first condition and the extra ones. Choose All conditions are met or Any condition is met.
- Add more blocks the same way if needed. After five conditions the Add condition link greys out, with the tooltip "An alert can have up to 5 conditions".
- Set Trigger, Expiration, Message and Notifications as for any alert, then press Create.
The default message joins the conditions with "and" or "or": the price part reads like "NIFTY Greater Than 24800.00", followed by the indicator name and its condition. You can type your own message instead. Some conditions need a setting switched on first: RSI's divergence alerts only fire when Calculate Divergence is ticked in its inputs.
How All and Any are evaluated
Conditions rarely become true at the exact same instant, so SuperCharting uses the bar as the window:
- When a condition hits, that hit counts for the rest of its bar.
- With All conditions are met, the alert fires when every condition has hit within the same bar of the chart's timeframe.
- With Any condition is met, the alert fires as soon as any one condition hits.
- Price conditions are checked on each incoming quote. Script conditions are checked when the script is re-run on the updated bars, at most every couple of seconds per alert.
- If the trigger is Once per bar close, a script condition is read on the last closed bar, and its hit also counts on the bar after it, so it can still line up with a price condition on the live bar.
The trigger then limits how often the combined alert notifies you, exactly as for a single alert: Once only, Once per bar, Once per bar close or Every time.
A worked example
You trade NSE:RELIANCE on the 1-hour chart and want to hear about a breakout only when momentum confirms it.
- Condition 1: Price, Crossing Up, 3,000.
- Condition 2: your Pine-compatible momentum script, condition "Bullish".
- Logic: All conditions are met. Trigger: Once per bar.
If price crosses 3,000 at 11:20 and the script's Bullish condition is true on the same 11:15 to 12:15 bar, the alert fires once for that bar. If the script only turns bullish two hours later, the price hit has expired with its bar and nothing fires.
What you cannot combine
- Strategies. A strategy is offered as a source for a single alert, which notifies on each order fill (see strategy tester). When the first condition is a strategy, Add condition is hidden, and strategies are not listed in the extra blocks.
- Different symbols. Every condition belongs to the symbol in the dialog header. For a cross-market idea, create separate alerts.
- Formula charts. Alerts on an expression chart are not available yet.
Alert presets keep the whole condition set, including the logic and the extra conditions, but not their price values. When a preset names a script that is not on the current chart, that condition is skipped and a toast tells you which one.
Limits and good practice
A multi-condition alert counts as a technical alert, and an account can keep up to 1,000 technical alerts. If one of its scripts fails to run, the alert is stopped and the reason is written to the Log tab of the Alerts panel.
Some habits that keep combined alerts useful:
- Use a timeframe that matches the idea. On a 1-minute chart the "same bar" window is one minute; on daily it is the whole session.
- Prefer Crossing Up or Crossing Down to Greater Than when you want the event, not the state.
- Give the alert a clear name in Message so a webhook receiver or a Telegram chat can tell setups apart.
- Test on a liquid symbol with Every time and a near level first, then switch to the real settings.
Alerts and the scripts behind them are tools for study and routine. They do not predict markets, and past results do not guarantee future results.
Frequently asked questions
How many conditions can one alert have?
Up to five: the first condition plus four added with Add condition.
Can I mix price and indicator conditions?
Yes. Each block chooses its own source, either Price or a script on the chart, so one alert can hold two price levels and an indicator signal.
Do all conditions need to be true at the same moment?
No. With All conditions are met they need to hit within the same bar of the chart's timeframe.
Why is Add condition missing?
The first condition is a strategy. Strategy alerts cannot be combined; choose Price or an indicator as the first source.
Can I edit the conditions later?
An existing alert cannot be edited. Remove it in the Alerts panel and create it again, or save the setup as an alert preset so it is quick to rebuild.
