Watchlists and watchlist alerts: track and alert on a list of symbols
Build several watchlists in SuperCharting with sections, flags and notes, and create a watchlist alert that applies one condition to every symbol in the list.
The watchlist is the panel that keeps your symbols in view with their last price and day change. SuperCharting lets you keep several named watchlists, split each one into sections, flag symbols in seven colours, add private notes, and turn a whole list into a watchlist alert: one set of conditions applied to every symbol on it.
The watchlist panel
Open it with the first button on the right-hand widget bar, Watchlist, details, and news. The panel has three parts:
- The header with the list name (click it to switch lists) and three buttons: Add symbol, Advanced view and Settings.
- The list with the columns Symbol, Last, Chg and Chg%. Prices tick green or red as quotes arrive, and a dash means no quote has arrived yet, for example while a market is closed.
- The details card for the selected symbol: its name and exchange, the last price with change and change %, the currency, whether the market is open or closed, and the time of the last update. Its buttons are Metrics (the company page, for stocks and funds), Add note and More.
Click a row to load that symbol on the active chart. A new account starts with a list holding two sections, FOREX & METALS (XAUUSD, EURUSD, BTCUSD) and INDIA (NSE:NIFTY, NSE:BANKNIFTY, NSE:RELIANCE), which you can change freely.
Several lists, sections, flags and notes
Lists
Click the list name to open the watchlist menu. It shows all your lists with the current one selected, then Create new list…, Rename list… and Delete list (offered when you have more than one). Lists are saved to your account, so they follow you to another browser or a phone. From a symbol's More menu, Add to watchlist copies it into any other list or into a new one.
Sections
Use Add section in the menu, or right-click a symbol and choose Add section above, to group rows under a heading such as "Banks" or "Metals". Click a section heading to collapse or expand it. Sort by symbol sorts alphabetically inside each section, and Clear list empties the list.
Flags
Right-click a symbol and choose Flag… (or use the flag button in the chart legend) to mark it Red, Blue, Green, Orange, Purple, Cyan or Pink. Each colour has its own list, such as "Red flagged symbols", created the first time you use it. The flag shows next to the ticker in every list and in the chart legend; choosing the same colour again removes it.
Notes
Add note on the details card (or Add note… on the right-click menu) stores a private note of up to 2,000 characters for that symbol: your levels, an earnings date, a reminder. The note appears under the symbol's description in the details card.
How to create a watchlist alert in SuperCharting
A watchlist alert takes the conditions you choose in the Create alert dialog and creates one alert for every symbol on the current list.
- Switch to the list you want, for example a list called "Nifty banks" with NSE:HDFCBANK, NSE:ICICIBANK, NSE:SBIN, NSE:AXISBANK and NSE:KOTAKBANK.
- Click the list name and choose Alert on this list….
- The Create alert dialog opens with the list name and symbol count in its header, for example "Nifty banks (5 symbols)". The condition starts as Moving Up % with a value of 1, because a list has no single price level.
- Adjust the condition. Moving Up % or Moving Down % suits a list best, for example Moving Down % with 2 to hear about any bank that falls 2%.
- Set Trigger and Expiration, and in Notifications choose toast, sound, a webhook or a Telegram chat.
- Press Create.
Each symbol gets its own alert, named after the list and the symbol, such as "Nifty banks · SBIN", so the notification tells you which one moved. You can stop, restart or remove any of them in the Alerts panel like a normal price alert. Section headings in the list are skipped; only real symbols get alerts.
The alerts use the timeframe of the active chart, which matters for the Once per bar trigger. The percentage conditions measure from the first price each alert sees after it is created, as described on the price alerts page.
Limits
- A watchlist alert covers at most 200 symbols.
- An account can keep up to 15 watchlist alerts.
- The alerts each list creates count towards the account's 1,000 price alerts (or 1,000 technical alerts when the condition is a script).
- The list is copied when you create the alert. Symbols you add to the list later are not covered; create a new watchlist alert for them.
Watchlist ideas that work well
- Index heavyweights. NSE:RELIANCE, NSE:HDFCBANK, NSE:ICICIBANK, NSE:INFY and NSE:TCS in one list, with a Moving Up % / Moving Down % watchlist alert of 1.5% each way on the daily timeframe.
- Metals and majors. XAUUSD, XAGUSD, EURUSD, GBPUSD and USDJPY in a list with sections for metals and pairs; see forex and gold charts.
- Screener results. Run a query in the stock screener, then add the names you want to follow to a new list.
Lists and alerts are tools for following markets you have chosen. They are not buy or sell signals.
Frequently asked questions
How many watchlists can I have?
The panel does not set a small fixed number; create as many named lists as you find useful. Each is saved to your account.
Can I set an alert on every stock in a list at once?
Yes. Click the list name and choose Alert on this list…. SuperCharting creates one alert per symbol, up to 200 symbols.
Why does my watchlist show dashes instead of prices?
No quote has arrived for that symbol yet, usually because its market is closed or its feed has not answered. Prices appear when quotes come in.
Do flagged symbols leave my list?
No. Flagging adds the symbol to the colour's list as well; it stays in its own list.
Can I remove one symbol from a watchlist alert?
Yes. Each symbol has its own alert in the Alerts panel; remove or stop just that one.
