Mobile charting: use SuperCharting on your phone without an app
Mobile charting with SuperCharting in a phone browser: the compact header, the Draw button, alerts, indicators and the Strategy Tester on a small screen.
SuperCharting runs in the phone's web browser, so there is nothing to install: sign in at supercharting.com and your saved layouts, watchlists and alerts are there. On screens narrower than 760 pixels the workstation switches to a compact layout with a short header, a round Draw button for drawing tools, and dialogs that fit the screen. Some desktop panels are not reachable at that width, and this page says which.
What changes on a phone
When the browser window is under 760 pixels wide (most phones held upright):
- The header keeps the menu and avatar, the symbol pill, the interval button, Indicators, Alert, the layout button and Settings. The favourite-interval buttons, Compare, chart type, templates, Replay, undo and redo, quick search, fullscreen, snapshot, Publish and Trade are hidden to save room. Every interval is still in the interval button's menu.
- The left drawing toolbar is replaced by the Draw button at the bottom-left of the chart.
- The right-hand widget bar (watchlist, Alerts panel, object tree, Screeners, Script Editor, Calendars and the rest) is hidden, and panels left open in a desktop session are not reopened on the phone, so they never cover the chart.
- The bottom bar keeps 1D, 5D, 1M, 3M, 1Y and All, Go to and the clock; 6M, YTD, 5Y and the session button are hidden.
- Symbol search and the Indicators dialog open full screen, with a section picker in place of the Indicators sidebar.
- Dialogs such as Create alert, chart settings and the layout menu shrink to the screen width so their buttons stay reachable.
Turn the phone sideways, or use a tablet: once the window is 760 pixels or wider you get the full desktop layout, including the widget bar and the Trade button.
Drawing on a phone
Tap the round Draw button and pick a tool from the menu: Trend line, Ray, Horizontal line, Vertical line, Rectangle, Brush, Text, Fib retracement and Long position. Then tap on the chart to place the points, for a trend line one tap at each end. The button is highlighted while a tool is active.
The same menu has Stop drawing, which goes back to the normal cursor, and Remove all drawings, which shows how many drawings the chart has. Drawings are saved with the layout, so a line you draw on the phone is on your desktop chart too. For the full set of tools see drawing tools.
How to set up a phone chart in SuperCharting
- Open supercharting.com in Chrome or Safari and sign in.
- Tap the symbol pill and search, for example
banknifty, then choose NSE:BANKNIFTY. - Tap the interval button and choose 5 minutes.
- Tap Indicators, pick a section in the picker, and add VWAP.
- Tap Draw, choose Horizontal line and tap the chart at the level you are watching.
- Tap Alert. The Create alert card fits the screen: set Crossing, your level, a trigger and an expiry.
- In Notifications, choose a Telegram chat so the alert reaches you even with the browser closed, then tap Create.
To save a layout made on the phone, use the layout button; layouts are stored in your account, so they open the same way on your computer.
Alerts on the go
Alerts run on the SuperCharting server, not on the phone. That has two practical effects:
- An alert created on the phone keeps working when you lock the screen or close the browser.
- An on-screen toast and sound only appear while a SuperCharting tab is open. For notifications on a locked phone, add a Telegram chat or a webhook to the alert.
The Alert button stays in the phone header, so creating alerts works as on desktop. The Alerts panel that lists, stops and removes alerts sits on the widget bar, so manage existing alerts with the phone sideways or from a computer. See price alerts for every condition and trigger.
The Strategy Tester on a small screen
Add a strategy from the Indicators dialog and the Strategy Tester opens under the chart, as on desktop, but capped at 45% of the screen height so the chart stays usable. Its collapse and maximise buttons stay on screen. The tester toolbar is wider than a phone, so swipe it sideways to reach the controls at the right, including Optimise. The four key statistics are shown as two rows of two so none is cut off. Tables such as the list of trades scroll sideways.
Limits on a phone
Being honest about what is harder on a small screen:
- The watchlist, Alerts panel, screener, Script Editor, Calendars and other widget-bar panels are not reachable below 760 pixels. Rotate the phone or use a larger screen.
- The Trade button for paper trading is hidden in the compact header.
- Bar Replay's header button is hidden; use a wider screen for replay sessions.
- Wide tables, such as screener results and the economic calendar, scroll sideways by design.
- Touch gestures vary between phones and browsers; if a drag does not do what you expect, use the Go to button and the range buttons in the bottom bar to move around the chart.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a SuperCharting app for Android or iPhone?
No app is needed. SuperCharting runs in the phone's browser and adapts its layout to the screen.
Can I draw trend lines on my phone?
Yes. Tap the round Draw button at the bottom-left of the chart, choose Trend line and tap the two points.
Will my desktop layouts appear on my phone?
Yes. Layouts, drawings, watchlists and alerts are saved to your account. Panels you had open on the desktop stay closed on the phone so the chart is visible.
How do I get alerts on my phone when SuperCharting is closed?
Add a Telegram chat in the alert's Notifications. Alerts run on the server and the message reaches Telegram whether or not the browser is open.
Why can I not see the watchlist on my phone?
The watchlist is on the right-hand widget bar, which is hidden below 760 pixels wide. Turn the phone sideways or use a tablet or computer.
