The MCX symbols to type
Every MCX futures contract can be opened by name. The easiest form is the continuous contract:
| What you want | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Gold, front month | MCX:GOLD1! | continuous: rolls to the next contract on its own |
| Gold, next month | MCX:GOLD2! | the contract after the front month |
| Crude oil | MCX:CRUDEOIL1! | MCX:CRUDEOILM1! for the mini contract |
| Silver | MCX:SILVER1! | also SILVERM, SILVERMIC and SILVER100 |
| Gold minis | MCX:GOLDM1! | also GOLDTEN, GOLDGUINEA and GOLDPETAL |
| Natural gas | MCX:NATURALGAS1! | MCX:NATGASMINI1! for the mini |
| Base metals | MCX:COPPER1!, MCX:ZINC1!, MCX:ALUMINIUM1!, MCX:LEAD1!, MCX:NICKEL1! | plus the mini contracts |
| MCX indices | MCX:MCXBULLDEX1!, MCX:MCXMETLDEX1! | bullion and metal index futures |
You do not need to remember these. Click the symbol name at the top left of the chart, type "gold" or "crude", and pick from the list. Agricultural contracts such as cotton, kapas, cardamom and mentha oil are there too.
Open an MCX live chart
- Open a chart and click the symbol at the top left.
- Type
MCX:GOLD1!(or just "gold") and press Enter. - Pick a timeframe. Every interval from 1 minute to 12 months works, plus custom ones such as 45 minutes or 2 days. Second and tick charts are built from live quotes, so they start from the first time anyone opens the symbol.
- Add indicators from the Indicators button: VWAP, Supertrend, RSI, moving averages and over 200 others.
MCX trades on weekdays from the morning until late in the evening. Outside those hours the chart shows the last session's candles.
Useful MCX layouts
- Gold, silver and crude side by side. A multi-chart layout shows up to 16 charts in one tab. Linking the interval and crosshair lets you compare MCX:GOLD1!, MCX:SILVER1! and MCX:CRUDEOIL1! bar by bar.
- Evening session crude. Crude oil and natural gas often move most in the Indian evening, when US markets are open. A 5-minute chart with session VWAP and a volume profile shows where the day's trading clustered.
Alerts and backtests on MCX
- Price alerts. Right-click the chart at a price and choose Add alert on GOLD1! at …, or use the Alert button. Alerts run on the server, so they fire with your browser closed. They arrive in the app, on Telegram with a chart picture, or at a webhook. See price alerts.
- Indicator and multi-condition alerts. Alert when RSI crosses 70 on MCX:CRUDEOIL1!, or combine up to five conditions in one multi-condition alert.
- Backtests. Put a Pine-compatible strategy on an MCX chart and the Strategy Tester reports its trades, equity curve and drawdown on past data. Set commission and slippage to match what you would really pay.
Good to know
- Futures only. These are MCX futures prices, not spot gold or silver prices. A futures price includes cost of carry, so it differs from the spot rate.
- Contract rolls. A continuous contract such as
GOLD1!joins one contract to the next, so there can be a jump on roll day. To study one contract alone, open it by its own name from the symbol search. - History. A chart loads up to 40,000 candles. How far back that reaches depends on the interval. The data coverage page has the details.
- No orders. SuperCharting is charting software. It does not place orders and is not a broker or an adviser. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade.
SuperCharting is independent and not affiliated with MCX or any broker.
